47 People have died in Mexico since Thursday because of floods wreaking havoc, especially in the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, Queretaro and Veracruz. The main affected zone is the Sierra Madre Oriental, a mountain range which runs parallel to Mexico's east coast and is filled with villages where telecommunications and other services have not yet been restored. Mexico has been hit by especially heavy rains throughout 2025 with a rainfall record set in the capital, Mexico City. Isidro Cano, a meteorologist told AFP that the intense rainfall since Thursday was caused by a seasonal shift and cloud formation as warm, humid air from the gulf of Mexico rises to the mountaintops

On Sunday, An explosion caused part of a coal mine in Tora Wari, Central Kurram to collapse, leaving 6 miners trapped. 5 of them lost their lives while one was saved, 3 miners are still missing. According to rescue officials, the explosion triggered a surge in underground water which led to the collapse. Rescue teams from the Hangu and Kurram Districts launched a joint operation to save the trapped workers. The Teams have started pumping water out of the flooded section of the mine
