Floods Ravage parts of Mexico

Jarida Report

47 People have died in Mexico since Thursday because of floods wreaking havoc, especially in the states of Hidalgo, Puebla, Queretaro and Veracruz. The main affected zone is the Sierra Madre Oriental, a mountain range which runs parallel to Mexico’s east coast and is filled with villages where telecommunications and other services have not yet been restored. Mexico has been hit by especially heavy rains throughout 2025 with a rainfall record set in the capital, Mexico City.

Isidro Cano, a meteorologist told AFP that the intense rainfall since Thursday was caused by a seasonal shift and cloud formation as warm, humid air from the gulf of Mexico rises to the mountaintops.
