People should benefit from lower inflation: Aurangzeb

Jarida Report

On April 5, 2025, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized the need for the benefits of reduced inflation to reach the populace. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he noted that Pakistan’s consumer price index (CPI) had decreased to 0.7% year-on-year in March, marking a three-decade low. Aurangzeb highlighted the Economic Coordination Committee’s (ECC) efforts to monitor and further reduce inflation, ensuring that the economic improvements positively impact citizens. He also mentioned upcoming discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the United States regarding new tariffs, aiming to transform current challenges into opportunities. Additionally, the minister reported a significant decline in interest rates and projected further reductions, attributing these developments to the government’s structural reforms intended to achieve macroeconomic stability and reduce reliance on international financial assistance.
