Mamta Kulkarni, renowned for her roles in Bollywood films like Karan Arjun, Sabse Bada Khiladi, and Baazi, has transitioned from acting to spirituality. During the ongoing Maha Kumbh pilgrimage, she underwent the sanyas ritual at the Kinnar Akhara, a Hindu religious order established by India’s trans community in 2018. Following the ceremony, she adopted the name Mai Mamta Nand Giri.
In a media interaction, Kulkarni shared her experience of being examined to earn the title of mahamandaleshwar, a designation used by certain Hindu monks. She expressed gratitude for the auspicious planetary alignment during the Maha Kumbh, noting its rarity. Addressing concerns from fans about her potential return to Bollywood, she emphasized that her spiritual journey is guided by divine will.
Prior to her spiritual path, Kulkarni was a prominent figure in the Indian film industry. She departed from acting in 2002, dedicating herself to spiritual pursuits. In 2016, she faced allegations of involvement in a drug case, but the Bombay High Court later quashed the case, stating that the proceedings were “manifestly frivolous and vexatious.”
Kulkarni’s transition from a celebrated actress to a Hindu monk reflects her deep commitment to spirituality and marks a significant chapter in her life.
