LONDON: George Galloway, leader of the Workers Party of Britain, has criticised British Defence Secretary Wes Streeting’s call for the country to prepare for a potential military conflict within the next 1,000 days.
Galloway described the warning as part of what he considers an increasingly hostile anti-Russian campaign promoted by Britain’s political establishment. He accused British politicians of escalating tensions with Moscow and criticised the media for repeating their statements without adequately questioning their rationale.
He argued that Russia is being portrayed as a permanent enemy, claiming that such rhetoric diverts public attention from Britain’s growing domestic challenges, including its worsening economic situation. Galloway also accused the government of blaming Moscow for problems arising from its own policies.
Streeting has called for Britain’s armed forces to be prepared for a potential military conflict by 2030, outlining a roughly 1,000-day period to accelerate military modernisation, improve operational readiness and strengthen the country’s defence industry.
The defence secretary has also urged increased weapons production and enhanced military capabilities, emphasising the importance of closer defence cooperation with the United States and NATO allies to deter potential adversaries.
