PTI Lawyer Meets Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail as Party Weighs Conditional Support for 28th Amendment

Jarida Report

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer Salman Safdar met former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail on Monday to discuss their health, detention conditions and pending legal cases, according to ARY News.

The meeting began at approximately 4:30 pm and lasted around 40 minutes. It marked Safdar’s first meeting with Khan in seven months, despite repeated requests for access, while he met Bushra Bibi for the first time in 11 months.

Following the meeting, Safdar said the limited time available was insufficient to discuss all the legal proceedings involving the PTI founder.

Both Khan and Bushra Bibi reportedly briefed their lawyer on their health and conditions inside the prison. They also provided fresh instructions concerning their ongoing cases and other legal matters.

Meanwhile, sources said PTI’s parliamentary party had discussed making its support for the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment conditional on Khan’s release from prison.

According to the sources, a majority of participants favoured linking the party’s backing for the proposed constitutional changes to the release of its incarcerated founder.

The parliamentary party also reportedly decided to establish a six-member steering committee to address concerns about access to Khan and his medical treatment.

The committee is expected to be headed by Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, with representation from the National Assembly, Senate, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

However, the reported membership arrangement includes more positions than the stated six-member total, and the committee’s final composition remains unclear.

Sources said the committee would engage in negotiations with the government and other relevant parties over access to Khan, his medical care and related concerns.

The developments come as PTI continues to pursue legal and political avenues concerning its founder’s imprisonment, while discussions over the proposed constitutional amendment add another dimension to negotiations between the party and the government.
