KP Announces 11-Member Advisory Council Amid Governor’s Rule Decision

Jarida Report

PESHAWAR: An 11-member advisory council for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has been announced, with Dr Syed Amir Abdullah, Tariq Mahmood Pasha and Lieutenant General (retd) Nigar Johar Khan among its members, ARY News reported.

Other members of the council include Usman Saifullah Khan, Amir Javed, Samar Haroon Bilour, Dr Muhammad Irshad, Maulana Muhammad Tayyab Qureshi, Kifayatullah Khan, Asif Rafiq Afridi and Dr Sarfaraz Ali Shah.

The announcement comes as the federal government moves to impose Governor’s Rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in response to the province’s law and order situation.

President Asif Ali Zardari signed the summary for imposing an emergency and Governor’s Rule in the province under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution, acting on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

According to the presidential proclamation, an increase in terrorist incidents and serious security threats prompted the decision to invoke the constitutional measures.

The proclamation highlighted a rise in attacks targeting government installations and law enforcement agencies, stating that these incidents posed significant threats to security and public order.

It further stated that the provincial government had failed to take adequate steps to address terrorism and lawlessness.

The proclamation also referred to a report submitted by the governor, which reportedly pointed to disruptions in the constitutional system and alleged that the provincial government was not operating in accordance with the Constitution.

In light of the security situation and the concerns outlined in the governor’s report, the president considered the proposed constitutional measures.
