Noor Al Ain and her brother have approached the Sindh High Court seeking the quashing of an FIR registered against them following a violent altercation involving two women at a residential building in DHA’s Khayaban-e-Bukhari area.
The petition challenges the case lodged by Maryam Raza at Darakhshan Police Station, with the petitioners maintaining that the FIR is false, unlawful and should be annulled.
Noor Al Ain and her brother have claimed that they were themselves attacked during the confrontation and alleged that the subsequent police case against them was registered at the behest of influential individuals.
The petition names Maryam Raza, the SHO of Darakhshan Police Station and the investigation officer as respondents. The SSP Investigation and the Sindh government have also been made parties to the proceedings.
The legal challenge comes as a separate police inquiry is already underway into the circumstances surrounding the Khayaban-e-Bukhari confrontation, including the presence of several police personnel captured in CCTV footage.
The committee, constituted under the supervision of DIG South, has obtained footage from the affected family and sought recordings and other information concerning previous disputes between the parties.
Investigators are also working to identify the police officers seen in the footage. Officials have said that most of the personnel visible in the recordings appear to be posted in Korangi district and will be called to explain their presence once their identities are confirmed.
Both sides have been summoned to record their statements before the inquiry committee. However, Advocate Sajjad Gul Khattari, representing the affected family, has said his clients have yet to decide whether they will appear, adding that they remain frightened following the incident.
The inquiry was ordered after footage of the altercation raised questions about both the confrontation and the role of police personnel at the scene.
The Karachi police chief has directed the committee to examine the matter impartially and submit its findings within three days.
