Türkiye has asked Interpol to issue a red notice for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as part of legal proceedings concerning an attack on activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said on Friday that proceedings were continuing at Istanbul’s 11th High Criminal Court against 35 defendants, including Netanyahu and Afek Moskovitch.
According to Gurlek, arrest warrants were issued for Netanyahu and Moskovitch on July 14, 2026, prompting the Justice Ministry to request that the Interior Ministry initiate the process of seeking Interpol red notices. Relevant documents have also been sent to Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry.
The case concerns an alleged armed intervention against civilians aboard the aid flotilla in international waters and the subsequent detention of activists attempting to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
Turkish prosecutors have brought a series of serious allegations against the defendants, including genocide, crimes against humanity, torture, intentional injury, aggravated deprivation of liberty, aggravated robbery, property damage and hijacking of transportation.
The Turkish authorities say the judicial process against Netanyahu and the other defendants remains ongoing.
