Pakistan on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism while paying tribute to those who have lost their lives or suffered its consequences, as the world marked the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.
In a statement on X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said the occasion provided an opportunity to remember the lives lost and recognise the lasting suffering endured by victims, survivors and their families.
The ministry said the day should also serve as a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and international commitment against terrorism in all its forms.
According to MoFA, Pakistan has made enormous human and economic sacrifices during its decades-long fight against terrorism. More than 90,000 Pakistanis have been killed, while the economic cost to the country has exceeded $150 billion.
The ministry said the nature of terrorism was also changing, with militant groups increasingly exploiting emerging technologies and cyberspace to broaden their reach and carry out more sophisticated attacks.
Pakistan, it added, also faces emerging threats including disinformation and misinformation campaigns, hydro-terrorism and extraterritorial assassination operations.
MoFA said Pakistan would remain steadfast in confronting terrorism while continuing to honour the sacrifices of its victims and survivors.
