Jarida Report

At least two people were killed and four others injured as heavy rainfall triggered flooding and building collapses in Swabi, while rescue teams evacuated more than 300 people from affected areas, Rescue 1122 said on Thursday.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warned of possible urban flooding in Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar and Nowshera, while hilly areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa face an increased risk of landslides.

In Azad Khel, Topi, a father and his daughter were killed when the roof of their house collapsed. A mother and her son were seriously injured in the same incident and were pulled from the rubble by Rescue 1122 personnel before being taken to a hospital in Topi.

Other building collapses were reported near the National Bank area, Jerando Canal and Azamabad checkpoint. Two people affected at Jerando Canal and five at Azamabad were moved to safety, while no one was trapped in the National Bank incident.

Flooding was also reported across several parts of Swabi district. Rescue teams using boats and life jackets evacuated more than 300 residents, including women, children and elderly people, from Khamza Dher, Mansab Dar, Managai, Turkei, Landi Cham, Qamargai and Dhanduqa.

The rescue operation was supervised by Swabi District Emergency Officer Owais Babar and Emergency Officer Nauman Khan, with personnel deployed across the affected areas.

Meanwhile, heavy rain continued in Rawalpindi, while the PMD forecast further rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across numerous districts of K-P.

The heaviest rainfall was expected in Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera and Peshawar, with authorities warning residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert to possible flooding and landslides.
