Key CCTV footage has emerged in the investigation into the deaths of two men whose decomposing bodies were discovered inside a car parked in an apartment building near Karachi’s Sea View.
Police recovered the bodies on Wednesday. One of the deceased was identified as 34-year-old Asadullah, a resident of Shirin Jinnah Colony who reportedly worked as a mechanic and also as a family driver. He was found in the driver’s seat.
The vehicle was registered to a woman identified as Tasleem Zahra, according to police. The second man, believed to be in his early 20s, has yet to be identified.
CCTV footage obtained by ARY News shows the two men arriving at the apartment building on a motorcycle at around 9:12pm on August 17. They are then seen walking towards the parking area, where Asadullah unlocked the garage and entered, followed by the other man.
Shortly afterwards, Asadullah emerged from the garage and looked around the premises before returning inside.
Investigators said the two men subsequently sat inside the car and started its engine.
Darakhshan Police Station SHO Rashid-ur-Rehman said preliminary findings suggest the pair may have died from suffocation caused by carbon monoxide accumulation.
Police said the garage was completely enclosed, potentially allowing exhaust fumes to build up while the engine was running. The fact that the vehicle had run out of fuel has also been cited as supporting the possibility that its engine continued running for some time.
Investigators believe the men may have died within hours of entering the garage. The condition of their bodies indicated they had remained there for more than two days before being discovered.
Asadullah’s family reported him missing on August 18 after he failed to return from his shop in Badar Commercial, DHA.
Police are continuing to examine the CCTV footage and other evidence while working to identify the second man and establish the precise circumstances of both deaths.
