Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim Undergoing Medical Tests, to Remain Under Observation

Jarida Report

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is undergoing medical examinations and procedures and is expected to remain under observation for two days, his office said on Monday.

Anwar is receiving tests and treatment prescribed by a team of medical specialists, Press Secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said in a statement. No further details about his condition or the nature of the procedures were disclosed.

The statement expressed hope that the prime minister would make a swift recovery and return to his official duties soon.

Anwar, who turned 79 on Monday, has served as Malaysia’s prime minister since 2022 and has previously experienced recurring back and shoulder problems.

He was hospitalised in 2018 for shoulder and back pain and cancelled a visit to Malaysia’s Pahang state last November because of back pain.

Officials have not indicated whether his current medical examinations are related to those previous health issues.
