Iran said on Saturday that any reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would be governed by Tehran’s own conditions and mechanisms, rejecting suggestions that the issue was directly linked to negotiations with Oman.
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesperson Brigadier General Mohebbi said decisions concerning the strategic waterway would be made according to the requirements set by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is subject to the specific mechanisms and conditions of the Islamic Republic of Iran and is entirely unrelated to the negotiations between Iran and Oman,” Mohebbi was quoted as saying by Press TV.
The comments come amid diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring safe navigation through the Strait, a crucial passage for global energy supplies.
Separately, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran would resist attempts to pressure it into abandoning its military and defensive capabilities.
Speaking in the final part of a televised address marking the second anniversary of his inauguration, Pezeshkian said Iran would continue to defend what it considers its legitimate rights and would not submit to external pressure.
“If they seek to force us into submission, we will fight. We will not back down, nor will we bow our heads,” Pezeshkian said.
His remarks underline Tehran’s position that any diplomatic settlement must preserve what Iran considers its sovereign rights and defence capabilities.
