Norway FA Calls on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Resign

Jarida Report

The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has called for FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down, with NFF President Lise Klaveness saying the world football body’s leader has lost the federation’s confidence.

Speaking after the NFF’s monthly board meeting, Klaveness said the federation no longer had trust in Infantino’s leadership.

“We have reached the point where there is no trust in Infantino. There has been another step in the wrong direction every year, and now there is no way back,” she said.

The demand comes amid growing criticism of Infantino over FIFA’s handling of a controversial proposal to sell a stake in the commercial rights to major FIFA tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup.

Earlier this week, FIFA apologised for its handling of the proposal, which envisaged creating a subsidiary valued at US$20 billion to manage the commercial and event operations of the World Cup and other competitions.

The plan would have allowed private investors to acquire up to a 20% stake in the new company but was withdrawn following widespread opposition from football stakeholders.

On Thursday, UEFA said FIFA’s apology and the withdrawal of the proposal were not enough to satisfy concerns, adding that the conditions for lifting its proposed boycott of FIFA competitions had not been met.
