The seventh round of US-mediated negotiations between Lebanon and Israel entered its third and final day in Rome on Thursday, with discussions focused on implementing the ceasefire agreement and easing tensions along the border.
A Lebanese official said the talks were centred on mechanisms for enforcing the ceasefire, securing a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, and strengthening the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces in border areas.
The current negotiations mark the second round hosted by Rome, following five previous rounds held in Washington, D.C., under a US-sponsored diplomatic process.
The talks are taking place amid continued hostilities, including reported Israeli airspace violations over Beirut and Tyre, as well as airstrikes and shelling in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon and Israel signed a US-brokered framework agreement on June 26, outlining a phased Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory, beginning with a pilot implementation in selected areas.
Despite the agreement, Israel has continued military operations in Lebanon since March 2. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, the fighting has killed 4,333 people and injured 12,250 others.
