PML-N, PTI Express Support for Creation of New Provinces

Jarida Report

Leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have voiced support for the creation of new provinces, signalling broad political backing for administrative reforms.

Speaking during a television programme, Federal Minister for Defence Production Raza Hayat Hiraj said the formation of new provinces was inevitable.

“New provinces will definitely be created,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would oversee the process. Hiraj also dismissed speculation about changes in the federal leadership, saying neither the prime minister nor Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was going anywhere.

PTI Chief Whip Malik Amir Dogar said his party agreed with Mohsin Naqvi on the need for new provinces, noting that there was broad consensus on the creation of South Punjab.

Dogar said future provinces should be established on the basis of population, with South Punjab expected to be the first to be created.

The remarks follow comments made by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the Pakistan Economic Summit in Islamabad last week, where he argued that Pakistan’s existing governance structure could no longer effectively address the country’s challenges and called for administrative reforms, including the creation of new administrative units.
