Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday dismissed reports that he had resigned amid the ongoing military escalation with the United States, saying he remained committed to leading the country.
“If I were going to resign, I would announce it publicly. I will not resign, and I will continue the struggle,” Pezeshkian said in a televised address, according to the official IRNA news agency.
He also rejected reports of disagreements with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and the armed forces, saying the country’s leadership was working in complete unity.
“We are working in full harmony. Everyone knows that if any disagreement arose, the armed forces would stand with Khamenei,” he said.
His remarks came after Iranian opposition media claimed he had submitted his resignation to the Supreme Leader on several occasions.
Meanwhile, Qatar said diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between the US and Iran remain underway.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said mediators, including Qatar, Pakistan and Oman, were coordinating closely to facilitate negotiations and exchange draft proposals between the two sides, according to Al Jazeera.
Al Ansari added that there is no clear timeline for reaching an agreement.
