A 68-year-old man has died of rabies at Mayo Hospital in Lahore after being bitten by a stray dog, hospital officials said on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Hashim, was a resident of Muzaffargarh, where the dog bite occurred about a month ago.
According to hospital officials, he was admitted to Mayo Hospital after developing symptoms consistent with rabies.
Doctors said a private laboratory test later confirmed the rabies infection.
Health experts warned that rabies is a viral disease that attacks the central nervous system, causing inflammation of the brain. Once symptoms appear, the disease is almost always fatal if not treated promptly after exposure.
