The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation into the disappearance of 12 Pakistani youths in Iran, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the suspected human smuggling network behind the case.
According to reports, the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Lahore has registered a case and constituted a special investigation team to trace the missing individuals and identify those responsible.
The agency said raids are underway to arrest the suspected human smuggler, while coordination with relevant foreign authorities will also be initiated to help locate and recover the missing youths.
Officials said all available resources would be utilised to ensure their safe return.
Among the missing are seven young men from Paseen village near Jallo Mor in Lahore, including three cousins, Dilshad, Usama and Waqas.
According to their families, a suspected agent identified as Amir allegedly collected millions of rupees after promising to send the victims abroad. The youths remained in contact with their families after reaching Iran but have not been heard from since.
Relatives also claimed they have received ransom demands from Waqas’ mobile phone. They further alleged that the suspected agent sent disturbing videos showing three of the missing youths with iron chains around their necks, pleading with their families to arrange money for their release.
The FIA said investigations are continuing and vowed to bring those involved in the alleged human trafficking operation to justice.
