A man accused of abducting a five-year-old girl was killed in an alleged police encounter in Faisalabad on Friday, while the child was rescued safely, Punjab Police said.
According to police, the girl was allegedly kidnapped while on her way to a nearby shop in the Rahmat Town area. A case was registered at Ghulam Muhammadabad Police Station, and investigators identified the suspect through CCTV footage.
Police said they launched a raid to recover the child, during which the suspect allegedly opened fire on the raiding team.
The officers returned fire, critically injuring the suspect, who later died while being transported to Allied Hospital, police said.
The girl was safely recovered during the operation and reunited with her parents.
The incident comes just weeks after another alleged police encounter in Punjab, where law enforcement officials similarly reported that a suspect was killed after opening fire during an operation.
