Iran on Tuesday described Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran as “highly productive”, saying the talks had produced significant diplomatic achievements whose results would become apparent soon.
“Contrary to some inaccurate media speculation, the visit of Field Marshal Asim Munir, the army chief of friendly Pakistan, to Iran was highly productive and yielded significant diplomatic achievements, the results of which will become apparent soon,” Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, a senior official at the Iranian President’s Office, said on X.
Munir visited Tehran on Monday and held meetings with senior Iranian officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Supreme National Security Council member Mohsen Rezaei and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
According to Pakistan’s military, the discussions focused on preventing further regional escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and efforts to end the Iran-US conflict through a negotiated settlement.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who accompanied Munir to Tehran, said the talks also covered steps required from both Iran and the United States to revive the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and work towards a broader settlement.
Naqvi said on Tuesday that “significant progress” had been achieved during the visit but did not disclose further details.
Iran and the United States signed a 14-point memorandum of understanding in June aimed at bringing the conflict to an end, but the interim agreement subsequently faltered.
