LHC Disposes of Petition Challenging Mohsin Naqvi’s PCB Appointment

Jarida Report

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday disposed of a petition challenging the appointment of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the petitioner sought to withdraw the case.

Justice Awais Khalid directed the petitioner to approach the appropriate legal forum if he wished to pursue the matter. The petition, filed by citizen Ashba Kamran, argued that Naqvi’s appointment violated Article 90 of the Constitution, contending that a senator could not simultaneously hold another executive office.

During the hearing, the PCB’s counsel defended the appointment, stating that all legal requirements had been fulfilled and that the law governing the board does not prescribe any specific qualifications for the office of chairman.

The court observed that if the petitioner’s objection centred on Naqvi holding dual offices as a senator, the appropriate course would be to challenge his Senate membership rather than his appointment as PCB chairman.
