Heavy gunfire and a powerful explosion were reported in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Saturday, triggering panic among residents.
According to reports, intense gunfire erupted near Meteorological Chowrangi on University Road, with witnesses saying a loud explosion was heard before the firing began.
A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said the service received reports of a blast near Block 5, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, prompting the Central Command and Control Centre to immediately dispatch emergency teams to the scene.
Rescue officials said teams had reached the location and were assessing the situation.
A heavy police contingent was also deployed to the area following the incident.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the reports and contacted the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh and the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi.
According to the chief minister’s spokesperson, Shah sought a detailed report on the incident and directed police to determine the nature of the explosion, reach the scene without delay and ensure all necessary measures were taken.
