Processions marking the 9th of Muharram concluded peacefully in major cities across Pakistan, including Karachi and Lahore, on Thursday under stringent security arrangements, with authorities deploying thousands of security personnel to ensure public safety.
The day was observed with solemnity and reverence to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
Mourning processions were held in cities across the country, including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Peshawar, amid heightened security measures. Mobile phone services were suspended in parts of several cities, while sensitive areas were sealed to prevent any untoward incidents.
Authorities in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi deployed tens of thousands of police personnel, established strict security cordons and closely monitored procession routes throughout the day.
Officials said the processions concluded without any major security incidents, as law enforcement agencies remained on high alert during the commemorations.
