IRGC Rejects New Strait of Hormuz Shipping Route, Warns Vessels to Follow Iranian Guidance

Jarida Report

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Thursday said safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz is only possible via routes designated by Iran, warning that a newly announced shipping corridor introduced without Tehran’s coordination is unacceptable and poses a safety risk.

In a statement carried by the state-run IRNA news agency, the IRGC said it would take action against vessels that fail to comply with its navigation requirements.

The force said all ships transiting the strategic waterway must coordinate with its naval units through international maritime Channel 16, warning that any violations would be met with appropriate action.

The statement comes after US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian electronically signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding on June 17, an agreement aimed at ending hostilities between the two countries and laying the groundwork for a lasting peace settlement.
