US President Donald Trump on Wednesday criticised the Senate for approving legislation directing him to halt military action against Iran, calling the move “poorly timed and meaningless” as efforts continue to implement the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed Iran was in a weak negotiating position and willing to make major concessions under the recently signed agreement.
“I have Iran on the ‘ropes’, ready to go down for the fall, willing to give us practically anything,” Trump wrote.
He argued that the Senate’s vote under the War Powers Act had undermined US leverage by signalling division at a critical stage of negotiations.
“By doing so, it has provided aid and comfort to the enemy,” Trump said, referring to Iran as the “Number One Sponsor of Terror in the World.”
The Islamabad Memorandum, signed last week, has been praised by Trump’s supporters as a landmark diplomatic breakthrough, while critics argue it risks strengthening and legitimising Iran.
