US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Switzerland on Sunday for peace talks with Iran aimed at securing a lasting end to the conflict, even as the two sides remained at odds over the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
Although Washington and Tehran agreed to a 60-day ceasefire while negotiations continue, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Saturday that it had closed the strategic waterway.
US officials rejected the claim, with the US military maintaining that commercial shipping continued to pass through the Strait of Hormuz despite the IRGC’s declaration.
