US Vice President JD Vance said on Saturday that he expects to travel to Switzerland soon for talks with Iran, even as Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, accusing the US and Israel of violating the truce.
The move heightened tensions ahead of negotiations aimed at advancing the interim agreement signed on Wednesday by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to end nearly four months of conflict.
The IRGC warned commercial vessels to stay away from the strategic waterway, citing what it described as Israeli “crimes” in Lebanon and an alleged US failure to uphold ceasefire commitments. It said ships entering the strait would be at risk until the situation is resolved.
