US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Apple has agreed to work with Intel to design and manufacture computer chips in the United States.
The partnership would help Apple diversify its chip supply chain as it seeks additional production capacity. The company currently relies heavily on TSMC, whose advanced manufacturing facilities are in high demand from AI chipmakers such as Nvidia and AMD.
According to a Wall Street Journal report published in May, Intel reached a preliminary agreement to manufacture some chips for Apple after more than a year of negotiations.
Apple and Intel did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment outside regular business hours.
