The US government has disclosed that , the artificial intelligence tool developed by , was used in military operations against Iran, according to a legal filing reviewed by AFP.
The June 15 filing was submitted as part of a court case defending gas turbines that power a major xAI data centre and are the subject of an environmental lawsuit. The US Department of Justice argued that shutting down the facility could undermine national security, economic interests and AI development linked to military operations.
To support its case, federal prosecutors cited testimony from Pentagon AI official Cameron Stanley, who stated under oath that Grok is already being used within Project Maven, the US military’s AI-assisted targeting system.
Project Maven was initially powered by Anthropic’s Claude model, but the filing indicates that Grok has now been integrated into the programme, highlighting the growing role of advanced artificial intelligence in US defence operations.
