NDMA Warns of Heavy Rain, Flooding Risks During First Week of Muharram

Jarida Report

The National Disaster Management Authority has warned of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rainfall, hailstorms and possible flooding across several parts of Pakistan during the first week of Muharram, as a western weather system moves across the country.

In an alert issued by its National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the NDMA said the forecast is consistent with seasonal weather projections issued months earlier, highlighting the value of early warning systems in disaster preparedness.

According to the authority, Islamabad, large parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan and northern districts of Sindh are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms and strong winds also possible.

The NDMA further warned that rainfall combined with rising temperatures could trigger flood-like conditions in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir through June 19, and directed relevant authorities to remain on high alert.
