Iran Declares Strait of Hormuz Closed, Warns Ships of Possible Attack

Jarida Report

Iran’s military command announced on Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz had been closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships, according to a statement carried by Mehr News Agency.

“From this moment on, due to insecurity in the region, the Strait of Hormuz is declared closed for the passage of all types of vessels,” the military said.

“Any passage [of ships] will be targeted.”

The move marks a major escalation in regional tensions and could have significant implications for global energy markets, as the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
