On May 15, 2025, the Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the bail hearings of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in eight cases related to the May 9 riots. A two-judge bench, led by Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi, postponed the proceedings to May 27 after the prosecution requested a delay to conduct photogrammetric and polygraph tests on Khan in Adiala Jail.
Khan’s lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, opposed the postponement, arguing that the decision to conduct these tests came nearly two years after the events and that such investigations do not necessitate the accused’s continued incarceration. The bail petitions contend that the prosecution has failed to establish Khan’s association with the incidents described in the FIRs, asserting that he was implicated as part of a politically motivated campaign to harass and humiliate him, despite being in National Accountability Bureau custody at the time. The sole allegation against Khan is of ‘abetment,’ which the defense claims is vaguely supported by the prosecution.Â
