Trump Urges Apple to Shift Production from India Back to the U.S.

Jarida Report

On May 15, 2025, during a visit to Qatar, U.S. President Donald Trump publicly urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to halt the company’s expansion of production facilities in India and instead increase manufacturing within the United States. Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Apple’s growing investments in India, despite the company’s earlier announcement of a $500 billion investment in the U.S. over the next four years. He emphasized that Apple should prioritize domestic production, stating that India has one of the highest tariff barriers in the world, making it challenging to sell American goods there. Trump’s comments come amid Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain by shifting production from China to countries like India and Vietnam, aiming to mitigate the impact of U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports. Apple has indicated that the majority of its products sold in the U.S. in the coming months will be sourced from India and Vietnam, while most products sold outside the U.S. will continue to be manufactured in China.
