KP Service Tribunal Strikes Down Removal of DG Information

Jarida Report

On May 11, 2025, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Service Tribunal ruled that the provincial government’s removal of Mohammad Imran from his position as Director General (DG) of Information and Public Relations was unlawful. The tribunal found that the government’s action violated the KP Civil Servants Act of 1973 and the Provincial Government’s Transfer/Posting Policy, which mandates a standard tenure of two years for postings unless exigent circumstances exist. The department failed to provide valid justification for the abrupt transfer and replacement with a junior officer, Salim Khan. The tribunal emphasized that civil servant postings must not be handled arbitrarily and that the appellant’s promotion to the DG position was in line with the rules. Consequently, the tribunal set aside the November 24, 2024, notification directing Imran to relinquish charge and report to the department.
