Brazilian authorities successfully thwarted a bomb plot targeting Lady Gaga’s historic free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on May 3, 2025. The concert attracted an estimated 2.1 million attendees, setting a new record for the largest audience at a female artist’s performance.
The plot was orchestrated by a criminal group that posed as Gaga’s fanbase, the “Little Monsters.” They planned to use improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails to attack the concert, aiming to gain social media notoriety by radicalizing minors. Brazilian police arrested two individuals in connection with the plot: an adult in Rio Grande do Sul on illegal firearm charges and a teenager in Rio de Janeiro on child pornography charges. The operation, named “Fake Monster,” involved coordinated raids across multiple states, including São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, and Mato Grosso. Authorities emphasized that the group spread hate speech and used digital platforms to radicalize youth and promote violence .
