Islamabad Police Chief Orders Probe into Crime Data Manipulation and FIR Discrepancies

Jarida Report

Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, has initiated a fact-finding inquiry into alleged manipulation of crime data by the capital police. The investigation focuses on practices such as non-registration of First Information Reports (FIRs), downgrading serious crimes to lesser offenses, and discrepancies between electronic complaint tags (e-tags) and registered FIRs.

A committee comprising senior police officials has been formed to examine these issues. However, concerns have been raised about the inclusion of officers responsible for case registration in the committee, potentially affecting the inquiry’s transparency.

The probe was prompted by reports suggesting that some complaints were not entered into the Complaint Management System (CMS) due to technical issues like internet outages or system malfunctions. In some instances, crimes were allegedly misclassified—for example, registering dacoity cases under the lesser charge of robbery.

IGP Rizvi acknowledged discrepancies but suggested that some media reports were misleading. He assured that a comprehensive report would be released to clarify the situation. The inquiry aims to enhance transparency and accountability within Islamabad’s policing practices.
