On April 12, 2025, the Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested Syed Muhammad Moosa Rizvi, alias Kamran, in Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar area. Rizvi is reportedly affiliated with the proscribed Zainebiyoun Brigade (ZB), an Iran-backed militant group banned in Pakistan since June 2024. He is allegedly involved in several sectarian-targeted killings in Karachi:
- September 5, 2023: Assaulted Qari Khurram, resulting in his death, and injured Mohammed Madani and Naveed Khan in the Taimuria area.
- September 20, 2023: Killed Sher Khan in the Mobina Town jurisdiction.
- November 26, 2023: Murdered Janat Gul in the Sachal area.
- November 13, 2024: Facilitated the killing of Syed Mohammed Abu Hashim in Samanabad.
The CTD’s investigation indicates that Rizvi received regular funding from the ZB for his activities. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat sectarian violence and militancy within Karachi.
