Iran Rules Out Direct Talks with U.S., Slams ‘Contradictory’ Stance

Jarida Report

On April 6, 2025, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed the possibility of direct negotiations with the United States concerning Iran’s nuclear program, labeling such talks as “meaningless.” This response followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent call for direct discussions and his accompanying threat of military action should diplomacy fail. Araghchi criticized the U.S. for its contradictory positions and threats of force, emphasizing Iran’s commitment to diplomacy through indirect channels. He asserted that Iran remains prepared to defend its national interests and sovereignty. Additionally, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed willingness for dialogue with the U.S. on equal terms but questioned Washington’s sincerity, highlighting the inconsistency between its calls for negotiations and simultaneous threats.
