At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting late on U.S. Independence Day in New York City’s Coney Island neighbourhood, according to the New York Police Department.
Police responded to reports of gunfire at around 10:37 p.m. on Saturday on West 31st Street in Brooklyn.
The victims included two men, two women and four children aged 14, 12, 7 and 6. All were taken to hospital. Seven were reported to be in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remained in critical condition.
Police recovered a firearm from the scene, but no arrests had been made as of Sunday. Authorities are investigating the incident.
