The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has risen to 5,346, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said on Tuesday.
In a post on the social media platform X, Rodriguez said the powerful earthquakes also left 16,740 people injured.
According to the figures released, authorities have provided assistance to 128,324 families affected by the disaster and established 107 temporary shelters, currently housing 21,235 people. A further 17,907 people remain without permanent housing.
Rodriguez said the earthquakes damaged 856 buildings, including 190 structures that collapsed.
The twin earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck the South American country on June 24, causing widespread destruction and triggering a large-scale humanitarian response.
