US Launches Eighth Night of Strikes on Iran as Conflict Escalates

Jarida Report

The United States carried out an eighth consecutive night of airstrikes against Iran after earlier announcing that two US service members were killed and another was reported missing following an Iranian attack in Jordan.

Hostilities between Washington and Tehran have intensified since an interim ceasefire agreed a month ago collapsed last week, raising fears of a renewed full-scale conflict.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest strikes began at 6pm on Saturday on the orders of President Donald Trump.

In a statement, CENTCOM said the operation was intended to further reduce Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and to retaliate against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces accused of carrying out the attack on US personnel in Jordan.

The command later confirmed that the operation had concluded, saying the strikes targeted Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defence facilities.

Iranian media reported that US forces struck an area near Sirik in southern Iran. Mehr News Agency said there were no reported casualties or damage to infrastructure, while Tasnim News Agency reported another strike near Shadegan, close to the Iraqi border.

In response, Iranian state television reported early Sunday that the Iranian military launched drone attacks targeting US military assets at Al-Adiri Camp and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. According to the report, the strikes were part of Iran’s ongoing campaign against US military facilities and allied assets in the Gulf.
