US House Passes $70 Billion Immigration Enforcement Funding Bill

Jarida Report

A prolonged political deadlock in the United States Congress over immigration enforcement funding ended on Tuesday after the Republican-controlled United States House of Representatives approved a $70 billion bill to finance US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol for the remainder of President Donald Trump’s administration.

The bill passed by a narrow 214-212 vote, largely along party lines, and now heads to the White House for Trump’s signature. Kevin Kiley, a former Republican who recently became an independent, joined Democrats in voting against the measure.

The Republican-led United States Senate passed the same legislation late last week after a lengthy voting session. Republicans used the reconciliation process, allowing them to bypass Democratic opposition in the Senate.
