US Aid Cuts Leave Refugees in Kenyan Camps Facing Severe Hunger, Warns UN

Jarida Report

Hundreds of thousands of refugees in Kenya’s Kakuma camp are facing extreme hunger due to drastic cuts in US funding to the UN World Food Programme (WFP). The camp, which houses around 300,000 refugees from across Africa and the Middle East, has seen food rations fall to just 30% of the minimum needed for survival. The impact is evident in malnourished children filling hospital wards, some suffering from severe acute malnutrition. The funding crisis stems from US President Donald Trump’s “America First” policy, which slashed foreign aid budgets. With the US previously providing about 70% of WFP’s support in Kenya, officials warn that the situation could lead to widespread, slow starvation if aid is not restored.
