The Re-Release of Avengers: Endgame

Marvel’s upward trajectory continues as they prepare to re-release their highest-grossing film, Avengers: Endgame, under a modified title, Avengers: Endgame Encore. The Russo brothers, who directed the film and will lead filming for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, described the re-release as a “critical companion story” and said the added material is designed to bridge the two films.

“It’s critically important to re-release the movie,” they explained, revealing that the new footage is “set in the Doomsday story” and has been added to Endgame. He said the opportunity allows the filmmakers to continue the stories of characters they have worked with for years while connecting the conclusion of the Infinity Saga to the next chapter. They told Fandango that the upcoming Avengers: Endgame Encore — featuring additional footage — is “going to connect the story of the two movies. There’s a natural progression from Endgame to Doomsday, which is also inclusive of all the other stories that have been playing out. But I think it’s important to see Endgame again in theatres for two reasons: One, you’re going to have a lot of fun … and two, I think it’s required viewing for following the story in Doomsday.”

It begs the question: what could possibly be in the new footage? We can’t expect it to be much, as the new footage is only about four more minutes long; that is nowhere near enough to build a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday. The only way I think this works is if they change the scenes that were in the movie, and the length of the movie technically stays the same, but that would also count as new footage, so I’m in the dark as to how big or small this addition could be. It is also the case that the re-release will have an exclusive look at Avengers: Doomsday, not within the movie. Now that could be big, because it is also rumoured to be around 4 minutes long. When you look at 4 minutes added to a re-release of a big movie compared to a 4-minute special look at one of the most anticipated movies of the year, sort of like an extended trailer, that fully gets my attention

I’ll go see Avengers: Endgame Encore and review it. I know for a fact I’ll enjoy it, cause it was an extremely enjoyable movie the first time, and it won’t change the second time — just more excitement and anticipation for what is to come.
