LAHORE: A surveillance drone allegedly suspected of being used for reconnaissance purposes crashed into the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) headquarters in Lahore, police officials said on Sunday.
According to police, the drone approached the facility from the direction of Jallo More. Officials said it was suspected to have been intended for monitoring the interior of the CTD headquarters.
The department’s security team took the crashed drone into custody after the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) examined it and declared it safe.
Police officials said the drone may have been sent towards the headquarters with malicious intentions, although its purpose has not yet been independently established.
A drone, also known as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), is an aircraft operated remotely by a human controller or through autonomous navigation systems.
Such devices range from small quadcopters to larger industrial aircraft and can be used for surveillance, reconnaissance and, in some cases, military operations.
