The Sindh Health Department has restored the original medical board constituted to oversee the exhumation and fresh post-mortem examination of Mir Raza Ali, following objections raised by his family over changes to the panel.
According to a notification issued on Friday, the restored board includes pathologists, forensic specialists, medico-legal officers and representatives of the Police Surgeon’s Office.
The panel includes forensic expert Dr Farah Wasim, pathologist Professor Dr Naseem Ahmed, and CPLC forensic identification expert Amir Hassan. Other members include Additional Police Surgeon Dr Sri Chand, Dr Kamran Khan, Dr Daniyal Mirza, Dr Muhammad Yasin and Dr Samia Syed.
The Health Department said the board may also seek assistance from additional specialists if required during the exhumation and examination process.
The development follows a dispute over the replacement of the original board with a newly constituted five-member panel, which Mir Raza Ali’s family refused to accept.
Earlier on Friday, Judicial Magistrate East Hameedullah stayed the exhumation until August 10 after Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain Ali, filed an application challenging the composition of the replacement board.
Through his lawyer, the family maintained that it would not consent to the exhumation under the five-member panel and sought restoration of the original medical board.
The restored board will be responsible for examining Mir Raza Ali’s remains as authorities seek to establish further evidence concerning the circumstances and cause of his death.
