One person was killed and four others were injured after Ukrainian drones struck civilian areas in Russia’s Samara region overnight, regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said on Tuesday.
Fedorishchev said on Telegram that the drones hit private homes and vehicles, among other targets.
He added that Russian air defences shot down dozens of drones across the wider Volga region, which contains strategically important infrastructure, including oil refineries and military manufacturing facilities.
Samara Mayor Ivan Noskov said air defences had repelled what he described as a “massive attack” on the city.
Samara is located more than 1,000 kilometres southeast of Moscow.
The information on casualties, damage and intercepted drones was provided by Russian officials. No Ukrainian response to the claims was included in the report.
