A private security guard was killed, two people were wounded and 12 workers were abducted after heavily armed assailants attacked a construction company’s base in the Palari area of Nana Sahib Ziarat in Duki district, Balochistan, on Saturday, police said.
Duki Superintendent of Police Mansoor Ahmed Buzdar said the attackers stormed the site and opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire with private security guards stationed at the camp.
Security guard Muhtajur-Rehman, a resident of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the clash.
Another security guard, Imran Wazir, and a local resident, Latif Tareen, were wounded and taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
According to the SP, the attackers then gathered workers at the camp and checked their identity cards before abducting 12 labourers.
Initial information indicated that 10 of those abducted were from Punjab, while two were ethnic Pashtuns, Buzdar said.
Before leaving the area, the assailants also set fire to heavy construction machinery at the site and then fled towards the surrounding hills.
Police and Frontier Corps personnel subsequently cordoned off the area and launched a joint search operation across the district.
Security forces are searching for the abducted workers and attempting to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
